???????????
I am not really sure what to call this post. There is just so much that I could say. I got my general information pack yesterday which tells me when I am going, who with, what we will be doing, where we will be staying, what to take and various other things.
So first things first, I fly from Heathrow to Johannesburg on Wednesday 4th October, at 9.30 arrive in J'burg the next morning and then fly on to Beira. My birthday this year will be really strange, I will be so nervous and desperately trying to remember to pack everything. I think Caz is a bit miffed that I go on her birthday, but it will make it an interesting day for her as well. I am going with three other girls Amber, Lizzie and Sophie. We stay together for the first few nights and for our ten day orientation but then we split into two pairs for living and working. We still spend our team days and days off together though. Lizzie is 22 and the rest of us are18 although I will be 19 by the time we go. We live with a family in the city, a bus ride from the centre, and eat with the family most of the time, so I hope I like Mozambican food!
This is what the pack says that we may be doing:
*Attending Sunday morning services and involvemnt in preaching and performances such as drama and singing
*Going to youth group (18+) on Saturday afternoon, befriending and supporting young people and being involved in the choir and leading some of the teaching
*Visiting sick people in the community and praying with them
*Helping run church projects particularly community (health and education) and/or children's clubs which are run in partnership with Oasis
*Supporting teachers in a church run pre-shool
*Teaching English
*There may be opportunities to teach guitar/worship and/or join in with sports programmes if these are things you enjoy/ are gifted in ( can I take this opportunity to laugh out loud, imagine, me, gifted at sport, what a joke)
Non-Church activities
*Leading worship and/or Sunday school at the English speakers fellowship on a Sunday evening
*Visiting an orphanage and possibly working regularly there
*Doing research or a project that is relevant to your placement
*Attending the Oasis Mozambique prayer meeting every week
That's a lot of stuff!
It costs about a pound for me to send letters home so I will mainly be emailing, but feel free to send me letters. We have been warned however that only about 70% get through to us and even less with parcels, and that it is advisable to write 'of no commercial value' on all of them. Having said that it does not give you an excuse to ignore the fact that I will be spending Christmas there and yes, I do want presents! :p
Hmm what else to say? I am still not sure that it has fully sunk in yet, even though I have the information now, but the thought of shopping for everything that I need to take with me is exciting!
Oh yes, I arrive back at Heathrow about half six in the morning on the 19th March 2007. That seems so far away right now.
I have to think about handing in my notice soon. I think I will leave at the end of August and just doss about for September. I don't really want to leave though, I have been at Market Street for so long(three years nearly), but I deffinately won't miss deep cleaning the toilets, or the fact that our air conditioning is broken!
I have to go off canoeing now so byeeeeeeeeeee!
